Saxon Genitive (‘s)

   Examples:

     Homer is Bart’s dad.

     Marge is Bart’s mum.

Lisa and Maggie are Bart’s sisters.

     Clancy is Bart’s grandad.

     Herb is Bart’s uncle.

Names ending in ‘s’

When a name ends in -s, like James, we can either use the normal ‘s structure (which is more common in modern English) or only add an apostrophe. If we add ‘s we need to add a syllable /iz/ to the pronunciation

For example:

That’s James’s drawing. OR That’s James’ drawing.

Camilla is Charles’s wife. OR Camilla is Charles’ wife.

Frances’s car has broken down. OR Frances’ car has broken down.

He is Mrs Jones's husband.

Joint Possession

When two or more people share possession of something, add the possessive ending (‘s) only to the last nounFor example:

Sarah and John’s apartment, Mary and Tom’s wedding.

THE BUTCHER’S

Some of the possessive nouns may function without a second noun.

Back to school!

Are you ready to kick off the new academic year?

Let's start introducing ourselves!

First,,,think about simple questions you can ask your classmates you don't know yet. and tell the teacher to write them on the board.  Now, write them in your notebook. Then split into pairs and in turns ask each other questions. You should take notes and try to remember as much as they can about your partner. Finally, you will tell the class how much you remember about that person.

Welcome

Welcome to the English Blog for 1st ESO students. I hope here you can find the information you need for reinforcing the subject we are studying in class.
